Make way for stronger sign-in security

Protect your practice data with multi-factor authentication (MFA)

As we add an extra layer of security to all Delta Dental online accounts, MFA will be optional starting September 18, 2025. On October 20, 2025, MFA will be required. Prepare your staff for these upcoming changes to ensure a smooth transition. Preview your future MFA experience below.

Enrolling in MFA is as easy as 1-2-3!

Enrollment in MFA will be required on October 20th, 2025. Currently, on login, you can defer enrollment and you will not be prompted again for 24 hours. Click through the steps below to see how it works.

Upon signing in, you will be prompted to verify your contact details.

Once verified, you can enroll your email and/or phone to receive MFA challenges when you sign in.

On each sign in, after you enter your password you'll be asked to complete an MFA verification using one of your verified factors.

Frequently asked questions

Delta Dental is adding extra sign-in security that provides an additional layer of protection to external users every time they sign in from a browser. This feature is referred to as multi-factor authentication (MFA) or two-factor authentication. When you attempt to log in to your provider account with your username and password, Delta Dental will send a one-time code by voice call, email, or text message. You must also enter that code on the sign-in screen to verify your identity and complete authentication.

MFA will be optional on Delta Dental provider accounts starting September 18, 2025. On October 20, 2025, MFA will be required.

MFA is crucial because it significantly enhances security by requiring you to verify your identity with more than just a password. This makes it much harder for cybercriminals to access your account and steal your information. This added layer of security helps protect against various threats, including phishing attacks and credential theft, which are increasingly common methods used by cybercriminals to gain access to your account.

You must enroll in MFA to maintain access to Delta Dental provider accounts. Once enrollment begins, an option to enroll with MFA will be provided automatically after you sign in. Once enrolled, you must use MFA each time you sign in. If you do not enroll, you will not be able to access Delta Dental provider accounts.

After enrollment, you must use MFA to sign in. Signing in with MFA will include both your usual password and a code sent to either your email address or phone.

We support email or phone. With these options, you will receive a temporary code which you must enter during the sign-in process. We currently do not support authenticator apps or biometrics to access Delta Dental provider accounts.

Our teams can help you with changing your email address. Once that’s done, you will be able to sign in using your new email and password, allowing you to update your phone number on your own.

Once enabled, you will receive a one-time code to verify your identity each time you sign in on a browser with your username and password.

MFA is the new sign-in standard. It will be required going forward to access all Delta Dental provider portals.

MFA adds an extra layer of security to protect your practice data by requiring a second verification step – via phone or email – in addition to your password. Because MFA requires live user verification, some third-party tools that log in automatically on your behalf may not function once MFA is in place. Importantly, you can always access benefit and eligibility information directly through your Delta Dental provider account. If you use a third-party tool and experience issues, please contact that vendor directly.

No, MFA will be managed by the technology platform that the provider account was registered on (DDCA, DDMA, DDMI, DDRI, DDWA, DDPA). Each of these six platforms will have a slightly different MFA experience. A provider account will only need to enroll in MFA once and will receive the same MFA experience regardless of which member company provider portal is being accessed. To see which experience a provider account will encounter, a provider can be directed to this page on deltadental.com.

At launch, email and SMS will be the two available factors. A user account can enroll in one or both factors. Additional factors will be available in the future.

The phone number and email address set on the account (at registration or via Edit Profile) are used for MFA. The service office email in NPF that is used for account verification is not used for the MFA process.

If a user has enrolled in both email and SMS factors, the user will be able to choose the factor to be used for each sign in attempt based on which is more convenient for them at the time.

Yes, all emails will originate from noreply@deltadental.com and all text messages are sent from 1-844-735-0285.
