Based in Boise, Idaho, approximately 9 out
of 10 dentists in Idaho belong to our participating dentist network, helping to make us the largest
dental benefit provider in the state.
We have been improving dental health for Idahoans since 1971 by emphasizing preventive care and making
dental coverage affordable to a variety of employers, from small companies to large corporations.
Unlike many other benefit providers, we specialize exclusively in dental coverage. Our wide variety
of plan options include:
- Delta Dental Premier (traditional fee-for-service) plans
- Delta Dental PPO (preferred provider organization) plans
- Customized plans for Self-Funded Experience Rated contracts

Not only are we the largest dental benefit provider in Idaho, we are also a member of the Delta Dental
Plans Association, the largest and oldest dental benefit plan system in the nation. In 1954, a group of
dentists recognized the need to increase access to oral healthcare and they formed dental service
organizations in California, Oregon, and Washington, which then developed dental benefit programs for
organized labor unions.
In 1966, these local organizations joined in the creation of Delta Dental Plans Association in order to
affiliate the independent state service organizations, coordinate dental benefit programs for customers with
employees in multiple states, and to increase the availability of dental care to millions of people working
and living in the United States.
Today, Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA) is comprised of 39 independent Delta Dental member companies
operating in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. These member companies provide dental
coverage to 54 million people, enrolled in over 89,000 groups throughout the country.

Delta Dental goes beyond its mission to specialize in dental benefits. We are a non-profit organization
with a passion to promote good dental health for our customers and those in our community. We share in a
promise to advance solutions for better dental health.
In 2004 our desire to go beyond benefits was put
into action with the development of a public benefit fund called Delta Dental Community Outreach. Our
outreach efforts include the creation of programs that provide access to better dental health for all
Idahoans including those that do not have dental coverage and cannot afford dental care. Each year Delta
Dental of Idaho provides substantial funds that go toward support of these outreach programs.
